Seas and Vegetation

Once again Haviva Garret shares an excellent summary!

Ramban says that the dry land is called Eretz and shares this name with the world as a whole because the land is where man fulfills his duty to Hashem.

Rashi points out that in Pasuk Tet it says that G-d put all the water in one place but in Pasuk Yud it talks about the bodies of water in plural. Why is there a difference? At first Hashem made one sea and then He told the sea to become different bodies of water and develop differently and take on different characteristics.

R' Hirsch adds that the land that was near to the water that developed differently was also affected and eventually changed the culture etc of the people who lived by the different seas. This is possibly the source of the different development of nations.

It says Ki Tov in this Pasuk which refers to Hashem finishing the work of the water and this is the first Ki Tov of Day 3

Pasuk Yud Aleph
Rashi says that Dasha means vegetation in general while Asav means individual plants.
Ramban says that Dasha is a plant in the first stages of life as it sprouts and Asav is a plant when it has reached its full growth potential.
